Gwendolyn V. Smith GNABSE Scholarship
The Greater Nashville Alliance of Black School Educators (GNABSE) is a group of dedicated professional educators organized to promote and facilitate the education of all students, Black students in particular. The GWENDOLYN V. SMITH SCHOLARSHIP is awarded to students of African American descent to promote the mission of enabling high academic achievement. Several scholarships will be awarded. The available scholarship amount is $1,000. The criteria for selection include:
- ACT / SAT / PSAT or other education scores
- Three letters of recommendation
- Cumulative grade point average
- Essay
- Education major or intent to pursue a major in education for high school students
- Financial need
- Aptitude of teaching experiences with school age children or community service
APPLICATION PROCESS
Submit and complete the following:
- GNABSE scholarship application
- At least three letters of recommendation
- A transcript of all coursework
- A copy of test score, i.e., ACT, SAT, GRE, other education scores. High school students must have school counselor authorization
- One page essay about a deceased African American educator who has made outstanding contributions to the city of Nashville
- A statement of intentionality to pursue a career in education
